The Jeep Safari of Sjptours take our clients to the Ghosts village trip in the middle of the desert. Which was founded by an English engineer called Mr. Andy in the year 1902.

It was the biggest phosphate’s quarry in the world, therefor the workers used to mine 5 tons every day. Selling the phosphates abroad using trains to transport it to Safaga port. Hamrawein (a port on the Red Sea, about 60 ks south of Safaga).
Ghosts Village used to be called “Om El Hewaytat ” which means the surrounded city because it is surrounded by mountains.
However they used to  house about 16000 people working there. By the beginning of 20 century, they used to dig the phosphates every day using dynamite .
The people who lived there had to leave all of their old cities on the River Nile side for working. Came to live inside the desert to work in Phosphate. Since they moved into the city , they settled in the region. Facilities started to be founded when Mr Andy built them a hospital. Later, as Mr Andy had built them a school for their children. A hospital, a church, Mosques and a theatre where built there too. However, the people had to leave that city the year 1997 as result of a government decision.

All houses are left in ruins, the schools, the market, the mosque and the villa of Mr Andy.

El Quseir Castle.

In the same trip we can visit El Quseir Castle which is 40 minutes Drive more to the south  ( Optional with extra $ 30 per person ).

Then we will drive to El Quseir city, where we will visit one of the oldest castles in the world, Therefor,in ancient history back to the pharaoh times, where the Egyptians used to import gold and things from Punt land.
